Take control – Stay happy

4 Apr

Well a couple of minutes ago, i was feeling like a “mean green fighting machine”, not in a mood to do anything. With a heavy heart and low spirited i went from one room to another, read a novel (Stepsister), started a new one, but seemed like nothing could get me in the mood.

When suddenly, i realized, wait girl! why in earth all you letting yourself suffer and all and i said to myself, “Oooh yeah! you’re right! what in earth am i doing?” and you won’t believe it but in second, i could see myself smiling again, looking at the positive angels rather negative ones.

This is the power, the power that you can control. The power not many know it exists. The power to rule your moods, your actions, to rule each and every move. Everyone experiences ups and downs, depending on what is happening in their lives. No one feels great all the time, and it is normal to feel low sometimes, as long as it doesn’t stay that way for too long.

Realization is the first step. Then be open to yourself. Talking openly about how you really feel can be like opening a door. Talking puts you back in control and reveals the choices you have.  Whilst it may not be possible to solve all the problems you are facing, you can find things to help you look after yourself day to day.

So next time when you’re in a bad mood for more than you want.
Don’t give in. Don’t let it get you!
Take charge of yourself!

Mild static electric shocks from car doors

7 Mar

For the past few weeks, I get a mild shock by touching the metal part of the car-door, every time I get in or out of the car.  Believe me it’s as weird as it sounds. And it’s more annoying now, although i try to be extra careful and all, even then you do get in contact somehow and there you get a zap!

What in the God’s name is going on?

Well, it’s good to know that I’m not the only one, it’s a big nuisance to many. This mild shock is caused by human Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). A phenomenon in which transfer of electrostatic charge takes place between two bodies. It happens very quickly when two bodies carrying opposite charge come in direct contact with each other.

This charging results in one object gaining electrons on its surface area to become negatively charged. And the other object loses electrons from its surface area and becomes positively charged. The small electric shock you may receive from certain objects happens when you become triboelectrically charged. Tribo what?

Triboelectrically charged is a term used for the transfer/shifting/ releasing/loss of an electron from one body to another, after they come in contact with each other and separate. A simple procedure of Give & Take and Opposites attracts I must say.

How to Avoid getting one?

There’s not much that you can do about it but even then try these one’s out.

  1. Very dry cloth (nylon, silks, rayons and some polys) are more prone to create static.
  2. Try not to touch the metal part of the car. Light push on the window would close the door nice and easy.

So, don’t get charged,
don’t let it get you! 🙂

The prime mover — scribbling

25 Feb

Why are you doing whatever your doing? You like what you’re doing, if no then what forces you to do so?  Is Boss your happy with you? Are you happy with yourself? And most importantly is your God happy with you? What do you do to please your God? Do you do as He says? Why was the last time you offered your prayers five times a day for the whole week? When was the last time you sat down to find out what’s written in Quran? When did you help the poor and the needy? Do you think you’re wasting your time, just killing it softly?

The clock keeps ticking,
like it or not.

Sun’s bright,
sky’s blue,
snow is white,
like it or not.

Do while you can,
Think, ponder, make a plan,
question every move.

Make friends with the why’s
make sense to them,
satisfy your mind.

Give meaning to your life,
make most out of it,
laugh if you like,
cry when you need to,
don’t just wonder,
know it for sure – be wise

know the clock still keeps ticking
like it or not.

I confess, i’m guilty my Lord!

Yes! for a change, let’s just talk about me. And me alone!

Often in life many of us may fool others, but we should try not to fool ourselves. It is important to be aware of our actions and motivations. Self-criticism is a great way of “keeping an eye on yourself”, it means we have to be honest with “ourselves”. There is no benefit from trying to justify our bad actions. If we can learn to be honest with ourselves our conscience will prevent us from undertaking regrettable actions. Most of the times, we wrongly invest our oh-so-precious time and effort in justifying our actions to ourselves, and this my friend is the danger of not being honest with yourself.

Keeping that in mind, i have something to confess. But first let me tell you one thing that i (consciously) keep myself miles away from a place where people are engaged in some kind of Gheebat or even something close to it. But last night, i went to see someone and that person told me that our President, Mr. Zardari misspelled God , finding it hard to believe i took off to another gathering. And politics was “the topic of the day”. And there i mentioned what out Current President did during his recent visit to Mazar-e-Quaid i-e he misspelled the words, God and Strength. After that, we cursed ourselves, our political leaders, made fun of everyone and said some nasty things that we shouldn’t have.

Late at night, while was checking my mail and surfing for some news i stumbled upon this article, it said, “Zardari’s misspelled remarks proved fabricated” Shocked as i was, i said to myself “You disgust Me”.

It was then i realized what great sin I’ve committed. It wasn’t just the backbitting i should be worrying about but it was actually a greater sin than backbiting, and this is Bauhtaan, (slander) accusing someone of  something that is untrue or without any evidence.

In surah-e-Al-Humaza 104, verse 1 of the Holy Quran:-

“Woe to every slanderer and backbiter.”

In Surah-e-Hujrat (The private apartments) 49, verse 6 of the Holy Quran,

“O you who believe! If a Fasiq (liar – evil person) comes to you with any news, verify it, lest you should harm people in ignorance, and after wards you become regretful for what you have done.”

In another Hadith ,narrated by Al-Bukhaari, 2317:-

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Alaah be upon him) said: “Whoever has wronged his brother with regard to his honor or anything else, let him seek his forgiveness today, before there will be no dinar and no dirham, and if he has any good deeds to his credit they will be taken from him in a manner commensurate with the wrong he did, and if he has no good deeds, then some of his counterpart’s bad deeds will be taken and added to his burden.”

Always remember, Self criticism is not easy, but it is a valuable aspect of our self improvement. When we criticize our bad actions, it is unhelpful to retain a powerful sense of guilt. Guilt does not help us to improve, it can just make us feel miserable. When we have become aware of wrong actions, make a resolution to avoid doing it and then focus on doing the right thing. This is much better than becoming debilitated from guilt.

So please Lord i beg of your forgiveness and won’t repeat this horrible mistake ever, insha Allah! And if Mr. Zardari you happen to be reading this article 😉 well, avoid any on-air comments or some legal action. hehe I appologize for everything i said. i truly am.

My love for Masalatv

17 Apr

I’ve been following the oh-so-delicious recipies of this commendable channel, Masala tv since it rarely had any viewers.Masala tv logo Everyone i knew who was into cooking and enjoyed playing with flavours used to watch BBC FOOD. And i liked it too! Well to be honest not so long ago i discovered, the chef in me 🙂 For a tom-boy like me the passion for cooking, trying out different styles of cooking and baking, garnishing and presenting techniques, and how i love to cook for parties now wasn’t always there.

First there was only BBC FOOD and i liked it alot, honestly! But the major problem that i experienced with BBC FOOD was that often their chefs would sometimes miss out measurement of some major ingridient, then there was no recap option, and not to mention the cultural differences we share with non-muslims caused major problems. And then…

Eye Television Network Limited (ETNL) launched “Masala TV” an initiative by the network that has taken the country by storm. Our very first exclusive 24-hour food channel in South Asia. Catering to everyone with an interest in good food. The timing and planning of the channel was brilliant, launched 1 day prior to the month of Ramadan, Masala became a household name that was recognized all across Pakistan and helped set the dinner tables in almost all homes during the month of fasting.

Ever since then with a pen and a note-book in my hand i’ve been glued to this oh-so-inspiring channel. Thanks to Masala tv i now can make all kinds of food, you name it, at home. And it keeps getting better and better. A heaven on earth for food lovers and for those who love cooking for them, over and over again.

Masala tv gives us an insipiring opertunity to watch professionals cook, tips and their useful techniques make a heluva difference. Their presentation ideas are out of this world, in short I love ’em all ( well not all 😉 It brings the best culinary programming from across the region with renowned chefs and nutritionists sharing their expert secrets. My very favourite Chef Zakir is the king of Masala tv or should be. Where there is King, there ought to be a Queen and the Queen of Masala (in my opinion) is Chef Rahat. I get up at midnight just to watch Chef Zakir’s dear program and yes i know i’m crazy.

And btw, all the amazing recipe videos of all the chefs on Masalatv are available on-line on Khanapakana, do check ’em out.

A not to Masalatv: Masalatv, you’re the best. And i would like to congratulate the owner of Masalatv and those who came up with the idea and those who helped making it possible. Your efforts have paid off well!

Thank you, Jazak Allah, God bless you all!

What were they thinking?

23 Mar

It all began on Sep. 30th, 2005 when a Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten printed twelveReprinting caricatures of the Holy Prophet protest caricatures or cartoons of the Holy Prophet P.B.U.H, entitled “Faces of Mohammad” some of which seemed to equate Prophet Mohammad P.B.U.H. with terrorism. And then the not-so-unexpected happened as the cartoons stirred anger across the Muslim world with calls for boycotting Danish products, mass protests, Danish flag-burning incidents, Danish embassies were attacked and unfortunately some people even lost their lives.

And then after all that, the cartoons got reprinted. And their reason was:

“They say they wanted to show their commitment to freedom of speech after an alleged plot to kill one of the cartoonists behind the drawings.”

Know more>>>

The republication of the cartoons has drawn condemnation among Muslims. Arab News reported from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, that the secretary-general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) had expressed regret about the new move.

“Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu urged Muslims to use legal and peaceful means to protest the outrage. He said that he wished the Danish media would have chosen another subject as a test case to reassert the freedom of speech instead of supporting a blatant act of incitement to hatred in a most unfortunate and senseless manner, noting that the newspapers were aware that this act would offend not only Danish Muslims but the world’s other 1.3 billion Muslims who have nothing to do with the alleged three-man terror plot.”

“The OIC General Secretariat would not hesitate to condemn the plotters in the strongest possible terms if their crime is established by the proper judicial Danish authorities. Although these individuals represent neither the Danish Muslims nor the Muslim world.” he added.

A note to Danish Officials or to whom it may concern: What do you want from us? Why would you do anything like this? What are you trying to prove?

A call to Muslims:Carefully read what Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu is saying. Start boycotting Danish products, if needed organize peaceful protests. Let your voice be heard. Don’t involve innocent civilians who have nothing to do with it as many Danes condemn the printing of these cartoons.
So please be prudent and choose your words wisely, make use of your anger in a constructive way. Know more about Danish products and try to create or use substitute products.

First think about your choices and then make a choice. And my first choice is to boycott their products. Ban Danish products

Prayer request for Imran khan’s father

9 Jan

Imran Khan, the famous cricketer, the chairperson of PTI Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party ( Movement for Justice), founder of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, a demigod, a hero, a role model and a mentor to many father’s seriously ill and has been admitted in the ICU (intensive care unit) at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and is on respiratory system. The PTI has requested everyone to pray for the early recovery of Imran Khan’s father.

No one likes to be sick, laying in a hospital room, or just plain feeling down in the dumps. In situations such as these a bouquet, a get well soon card, or a prayer note can make the patient and his family feel special. It doesn’t have to be something fancy, just a little something to show them “we care”.

A note to Mr. Ikramullah Khan Niazi: Me and my family wish you a speedy recovery and healthier days ahead. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family, Get Well Soon!
